Job Posting: Adjunct Instructor - Teaching French as a Second Language
This position is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.

Course Overview:
The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of second language teaching methodologies, particularly emphasizing the French language. Participants will explore essential pedagogical concepts and compare the learning experiences of both first and second language students, while also examining the roles of educators and learners through the development of linguistic profiles and educational resources.

Estimated Class Size: 45

Class Schedule: Thursdays 3:00 - 6:00pm

(NOTE: The instruction mode for this course is anticipated to be in-person. Should there be any changes, notifications will be provided as early as possible.)

Appointment Duration: September to December

Compensation:
Adjunct Instructor I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Adjunct Instructor I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Adjunct Instructor II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Adjunct Instructor II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Adjunct Instructor III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Adjunct Instructor III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please be aware that if the rates specified in the collective agreement differ from those stated in this posting, the collective agreement rates will take precedence.

Essential Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Education or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience in university-level instruction of a course focused on second language pedagogy, particularly in French.
- (Near-)native proficiency in both spoken and written French.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a closely related subject.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Public School French curriculum.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have advanced to the rank of Adjunct Instructor II and III as per Article 14:12.

Responsibilities:
All standard duties associated with the design and delivery of a university credit course, including:
- Preparation and presentation of course material;
- Engagement with students outside of class through email and office hours;
- Development, administration, and grading of assignments, tests, and examinations;
- Calculation and submission of student grades;
- Procurement of all necessary reading materials;
- Supervision of teaching assistants (if applicable) assigned to the course.
