Job Overview

The Housekeeper at Phoenix Society is responsible for performing a range of cleaning tasks, ensuring that both the suites and communal areas within the facility are maintained in a pristine and organized state. This role involves collaboration with fellow janitorial personnel and volunteers to uphold cleanliness standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning Duties

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors to maintain cleanliness.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors as necessary.
  • Collect and dispose of all waste, recycling, and compost materials.
  • Clean and restock restroom facilities.
  • Polish and maintain furniture, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Wash windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Dust surfaces, including furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets and rugs as required.
  • Make beds and ensure linens are adequately stocked.
  • Adhere to protocols for using chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Ensure building security and safety by locking doors post-cleaning and checking electrical appliances for hazards.
  • Inform management about the need for significant repairs, minor renovations, or servicing of building systems.
  • Request supplies and equipment necessary for cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Organize and maintain cleaning tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Execute other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 education.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in custodial or housekeeping roles.
  • Additional training in related fields and WHMIS is advantageous.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is essential.
  • Successful completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.
  • Completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required.
  • Submission of Employee Immunization Record form is necessary.
  • First Aid certification with CPR is required.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in professional verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in custodial services or housekeeping.
  • Capability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, including heavy lifting and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team efforts.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and be on call as needed.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure in a dynamic and diverse environment.
  • Experience in fostering a person-centered and community-oriented atmosphere with marginalized individuals is beneficial.
