Our Emergency Department is a well-equipped 15-bed unit featuring a specialized Rapid Assessment Fast Track (RAFT) area, catering to a diverse patient population.
Our multidisciplinary team operates around the clock, consisting of skilled nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and various healthcare professionals. We emphasize comprehensive patient assessments, integrating mental health and internal medicine resources to facilitate timely referrals and admissions.
As a Physician Assistant, you will collaborate closely with our Senior Emergency Department physicians. You will be accountable to the supervising Senior ED physician for clinical responsibilities and to the Patient Care Manager for administrative tasks. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting thorough patient interviews and documenting medical histories.
- Performing detailed physical examinations and interpreting clinical findings.
- Coordinating laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
- Supporting patients and their families during the transition from the Emergency Department to community care.
- Communicating effectively with ED physicians regarding patient updates and diagnostic results.
- Executing specific medical directives as delegated by a supervising physician.
- Fulfilling additional duties within your scope of practice as a Physician Assistant.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program in Ontario, such as McMaster or Consortium.
- Certification or eligibility for certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council (PACC).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- A demonstrated interest in Emergency Medicine.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Proven ability to conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a team-based healthcare model.
- A satisfactory record of employment and attendance.
Additional Information
Location: Halton Healthcare
Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends, with varying 10-hour shifts based on operational requirements.
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications.
