Position Overview

The Clinical Nursing Educator plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, education, and clinical expertise to support the orientation and competency-based skills development of hospital personnel. This position is designed for a term of 4 months. The Clinical Nursing Educator collaborates closely with the interprofessional program team to implement evidence-based practices aimed at achieving program goals, particularly in the creation of clinical pathways or protocols. This role exemplifies clinical excellence and core competencies, striving to enhance professional nursing practice and the practices of other relevant professions through leadership, education, research integration, and critical inquiry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and assess ongoing educational initiatives for staff, ensuring effective program delivery.

• Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of clinical pathways and patient care guidelines relevant to specific care episodes.

• Evaluate the learning needs of staff and assist them in achieving their educational objectives.

• Create, implement, and assess evidence-based practice activities and educational resources for clinical staff.

• Stay informed on nursing and healthcare trends/issues, collaborating to incorporate relevant information into educational activities.

• Plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based changes in clinical practices and care delivery processes, driven by continuous improvement initiatives.

• Coordinate, implement, and assess the content and process of patient education programs related to the clinical area.

• Collaborate with fellow educators and professional practice facilitators in the development and delivery of corporate clinical educational programs.

Qualifications & Skills

• Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.

• A minimum of three to five years of recent and relevant clinical nursing experience is essential.

• Certification in Adult Education principles or one to two years of experience in delivering adult training is required.

• Advanced knowledge and expertise with central venous access devices is necessary.

• Best Practice Spotlight Organization Champion designation or a commitment to pursue this within the first month of employment is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Canadian Nurses Association certification in a related field or a willingness to pursue this within one year of employment.

• ACLS and BCLS certifications are required.

• Advanced knowledge of complex wound care is preferred.

• Certification in Gentle Persuasion Approach (GPA) de-escalation or equivalent is preferred.

• Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator in a healthcare setting is preferred.

• A Master's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

• Completion of a Patient-Centered Care course or equivalent is preferred.

• ACLS Instructor certification is preferred.

• Current membership with RNAO is preferred.
