About the Role

Mara Renewables Corp is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pilot Plant Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for executing pilot-scale experiments, operating and maintaining pilot plant equipment, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Safety:
    • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Report safety concerns to the safety committee and supervisor, and support investigations as needed.
    • Operate equipment within manufacturer-specified limits and according to provided training.
  • Equipment Operation and Troubleshooting:
    • Operate stainless steel fermenters, continuous centrifuges, and other equipment as required.
    • Document and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.
    • Coordinate with internal and external support for equipment repairs and upgrades.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:
    • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance.
    • Calibrate equipment and maintain critical spares inventory to limit downtime.
  • Batch Preparation and Planning:
    • Collaborate with scientists to plan and execute batch activities.
    • Order raw materials, parts, and consumables, and maintain inventory logs.
  • Bioburden Reduction and Aseptic Operation:
    • Schedule cleaning of the pilot plant, process equipment, and accessories.
    • Perform aseptic operations, including BSC operation, media sterilizations, and sterile transfers.
    • Execute basic wet chemistry and analytical procedures, microscopy, and plating.
  • Bioprocess Monitoring:
    • Monitor and control processes to ensure parameters are within specified ranges.
    • Address process anomalies in collaboration with scientists and the supervisor.
    • Assist in analyzing experimental data and contribute to interpreting results.
    • Collaborate with scientists to optimize process parameters at the pilot scale.
  • Quality/GMP/GLP Compliance:
    • Document steps in batch records, forms, and logs, following data integrity principles.
    • Address QMP audit observations to continuously improve the pilot plant.
    • Raise any non-conformities or observations to the supervisor.
    • Support root cause investigations to identify and implement CAPAs.
    • Assist in identifying and closing GAPs in pilot plant operations.
    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering (preferred) or equivalent experience.
    • Relevant experience: 0-2 years, ideally in an academic or industrial laboratory or plant setting.
    • Proactive approach to safety.
    • Excellent mechanical aptitude and curiosity to learn.
    • Awareness/training in GxP practices.
    • Ability to follow set procedures with precision and tenacity to complete tasks on time.
