Position Overview

YOUR PROFILE

You are known for your independence and expertise in estimating costs for large-scale industrial initiatives, along with your analytical and critical thinking skills in reviewing cost assessments. Your proficiency includes coordinating various project components with multiple stakeholders while ensuring a thorough evaluation of equipment and resource needs. You excel in estimating complex heavy industrial installations and are motivated by the desire to create a significant impact in your field, work environment, and the world by contributing to innovative waste management and renewable energy production initiatives.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

As a Cost Estimation Specialist, you will assist project delivery teams by providing your expertise in crafting detailed estimates for high-profile initiatives. You will also be tasked with estimating internal engineering costs and evaluating Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment. Additionally, you will utilize your judgment, advanced estimation knowledge, and extensive experience in the petrochemical and/or biofuels sectors to critically assess detailed project estimates from our partners and service providers, offering suggestions for enhancements. You may also mentor colleagues by sharing your insights and guiding them in establishing best practices and pursuing professional development. You will report to the Director of Project Services, providing an opportunity to collaborate with a talented team while advancing your career and contributing to Enerkem's unique disruptive technology.

YOUR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead cost estimation for significant infrastructure projects, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expertise.
  • Assess costs of Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment, identifying uncertainties and applying suitable allocations.
  • Review technical drawings to define the scope of work and estimate specifics.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of detailed project cost estimates, providing recommendations for further development and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Work closely with other disciplines (e.g., procurement, planning, engineering) and project managers to ensure alignment in methods, estimation approaches, and deliverables.
  • Actively engage in value engineering efforts, recommending optimal solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, and material availability.
  • Strategically contribute to the preparation of budget estimate requests and manage cost databases from previous projects to provide benchmarks for comparison.
  • Establish effective work processes to continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of estimates.
  • Support Cost Control teams in integrating actual project costs and detailed material lists in producing a Class 1 estimate regarding Enerkem's construction technology.
  • Participate in project cost estimate reviews submitted by suppliers.

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in estimating industrial projects, preferably in the petrochemical, biofuels, mining, or metallurgical sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in estimating costs for major infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in estimation software and project management tools (e.g., MS Excel, MS Access, Primavera, MS Project, Aspen Capital Cost Estimator) with the ability to utilize benchmarking data.
  • Membership in AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) or a relevant organization is an asset.
