Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Canadian Centre for Child Protection Full time

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) is a national charity focused on ensuring the safety and protection of children. Our mission is to diminish the sexual abuse and exploitation of minors, assist in locating missing children, and prevent child victimization.

C3P operates — Canada's tipline for reporting child sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet — along with various prevention and intervention programs and initiatives.

About This Role

Are you seeking a position that positively impacts children globally? The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is a national charitable organization committed to the personal safety of all children. We manage Canada's national tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children and are currently in search of a responsible and dedicated individual to fulfill the role of Child Safety Protection Specialist .

As a Child Safety Protection Specialist, you will handle and respond to both online and telephone reports from the public concerning online sexual exploitation. Your responsibilities will include reviewing, prioritizing, and conducting Internet-based research on the reports and tips submitted by the public. Following a thorough analysis, you will forward cases involving potentially illegal incidents to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or child welfare services when a child is in need of protection.

Furthermore, specialists contribute to the reduction of the global availability of child sexual abuse material on the Internet through their involvement in Project Arachnid. The evaluations made by specialists play a crucial role in the removal of this harmful content.

Specialists are also tasked with responding to public inquiries for educational resources and information to assist Canadians in keeping themselves and their families safe while navigating the Internet.

Qualifications include:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (social work, criminology, justice, or another social science)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience (familiarity with criminal justice and child welfare systems is an asset)
  • Proficient computer skills, including an understanding of file sharing, newsgroups, IRC, web-based chat, email, and the World-Wide Web
  • Familiarity with Internet tools such as search engines, DNS lookups, WHOIS, and trace routes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive subject matter appropriately
  • Knowledge of the Internet, social media, and mobile applications
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent telephone communication skills
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset
