Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the formulation of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing co-op student retention and engagement, aligned with institutional goals.
- Offer personalized guidance to co-op students, ensuring their academic and co-op pathways are well-coordinated.
- Stay informed about best practices in student retention and engagement, integrating innovative approaches into departmental initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus partners to facilitate early intervention strategies that support co-op students' success.
- Identify challenges faced by co-op students and connect them with appropriate resources and services.
- Lead the creation of a first-year co-op student engagement strategy, encompassing events, programming, and outreach efforts.
- Oversee volunteer outreach initiatives to engage co-op students as program ambassadors.
- Analyze co-op attrition rates related to academic performance to inform retention strategies.
- Maintain a comprehensive database for qualitative and quantitative reporting on co-op student retention and progression.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student staff to support the co-op engagement strategy.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Communication, or Education, along with completion of Mental Health and First Aid training.
- 3-5 years of experience in co-op programs, academic advising, or student affairs, with 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of Brock University and its co-op offerings.
- Experience in assessing client needs and developing tailored action plans.
- Ability to adapt to change and navigate ambiguity effectively.
- Strong understanding of course offerings, program requirements, and co-op sequencing.
- Familiarity with university regulations and departmental policies.
- Knowledge of Ontario Human Rights legislation and applicable disability laws.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and customized university systems.
- Experience with social media platforms and content creation tools.
- Strong persuasive skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
- Advanced conflict resolution abilities and diplomatic communication skills.
- Proven capability to build and maintain professional relationships across diverse student populations.
- Excellent judgment and crisis management skills, with the ability to implement effective solutions swiftly.
- Innovative, adaptable, and committed to teamwork and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or background in counseling or psychology.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Job Grade (K), Salary Scale ($57,400-$98,400).
- Target Hiring Range: $57,400-$65,000.
- This position includes comprehensive benefits, including a tuition waiver.
