The Faculty of Arts & Science is seeking applications for anticipated course offerings in the upcoming academic terms:
Course Title: VISM-2001: Introduction to Film Studies (0.5 credit)
COURSE OVERVIEW: This course offers an introduction to modern theories and methodologies in film analysis. It equips students with essential critical tools to identify and evaluate the narrative, visual, and auditory components of film, with a focus on innovative and experimental perspectives in global cinema from its inception to contemporary works. Through a combination of in-class screenings, lectures, readings, and discussions, students will engage with a diverse array of cinematic styles, including narrative, documentary, animation, art-house, experimental, and avant-garde films, as well as various genres and cultural contexts.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The role encompasses a range of teaching and related duties, which may include but are not limited to: developing course outlines, preparing and delivering studio sessions, conducting lectures, providing critiques, grading assignments, and managing mid-term and final evaluations. Additionally, the instructor will be responsible for ensuring health and safety standards are met while adhering to academic and curricular requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A terminal degree in art, design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is preferred; relevant experience will also be considered. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to foster a respectful and inclusive educational environment for students, staff, and faculty.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term contracts. Compensation is based on a per-course pay scale, with a salary of $6 per 0.5 credit course, plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act. These positions are contingent upon budgetary approval and satisfactory enrollment levels.
