Position Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare team at The Royal Mental Health Centre, ensuring the safe and effective distribution of medications. This position requires adherence to established standards and practices while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all Pharmacy Technician responsibilities as outlined in the NAPRA Standards of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Proficiently operate pharmacy management systems such as Meditech and Kroll, along with Omnicell XT, OCRA, and PacMed.
  • Engage in the medication distribution process and support pharmacy operations.
  • Contribute to Medication Reconciliation Activities to enhance patient safety.
  • Package and deliver pharmaceutical products to various care units, ensuring compliance with safety protocols; lifting may be required.
  • Prepare and ensure the timely shipment of pharmaceutical products as necessary.
  • Communicate performance expectations and quality standards to pharmacy colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of prescription distribution processes.
  • Implement quality control measures and address any quality concerns with pharmacy teams and partners.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Adhere to established procedures and guidelines in accordance with pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete daily responsibilities accurately and punctually.
  • Follow safety practices and policies to ensure a secure environment for staff and patients.
  • Foster a workplace culture that aligns with The Royal's Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Mandatory registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting is advantageous.
  • Proficient in pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology is essential.
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor, reliability, and integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Customer-service oriented approach.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law, ethics, and privacy regulations.
  • Completion of standard training upon hire is required, covering pharmacy systems and relevant technologies.
  • Basic inventory management skills related to storage and security are necessary.
  • English proficiency at level A- is required in oral and written communication; bilingualism in French is an asset.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $31.38 to $36.17 per hour.
