Job Title: Process Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing technical and metallurgical support to the Business Center, ensuring the development and implementation of new casting programs, and supporting current manufacturing casting programs and associated processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new casting programs, ensuring adequate process engineering resources and operational equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering and manufacturing departments, ensuring effective coordination of multiple experiments or investigations for process and product quality improvement, optimization, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure continuous improvement, elimination of waste, and reduction of operating costs, revising and managing metallurgical processes.
  • Organize projects, investigations, and analytical studies to develop and test new applications of engineering knowledge.
  • Act as engineering authority on casting projects, determining manufacturing requirements, acceptability of process/product design modifications, materials, and work methods.
  • Develop, approve, and coordinate process engineering teamwork schedules, assigning work to meet deadlines, establishing priorities and objectives, estimating costs and resource needs, and deploying staff.
  • Make recommendations on equipment and systems, their configurations, modifications, and integration in casting program work.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement research & development needs, or other technical projects, experiments, or investigations.
  • Identify, analyze, and advise on unusual or difficult problems, initiate investigations, and devise effective solutions.
  • Control process variables to obtain specified metallurgical characteristics and qualities.
  • Investigate methods of improving metallurgical processes.
  • Review production orders or schedules ahead of time to ascertain process/product needs.
  • Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Compile, store, and retrieve process engineering data.
  • Provide technical support to the Business Center, actively pursuing the elimination of waste, continuous improvement of processes, equipment reliability and efficiency, and reduction of operating costs.
  • Troubleshoot processing problems.
  • Interface with production personnel regarding all processing requirements.
  • Develop and implement process improvements.
  • Interact with customers regarding technical concerns in processing their products and quality issues.
  • Execute metallurgical evaluations.
  • Perform quality investigations, as required.
  • Access manufacturing feasibility for responses to requests for quotations from customers.
  • Design and conduct training.
  • Execute assigned personal projects.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Ensure effective supervision, direction, training, coaching, and personnel development of personnel in order to deliver stated results.
  • Develop and maintain effective employees, training, and progression programs.
  • Provide area leadership in Total Quality behavior and philosophy.
  • Be a key player in selection of personnel.
  • Ensure periodic appraisal of each employee's performance.
  • Develop and implement effective employee development programs.
  • Interface regularly with customers to ensure choice of supplier status.
  • Determine manpower needs and staff accordingly.
  • Ensure effective and ongoing training at all levels.
  • Ensure an ongoing effective safety program.
  • Maintain strong line of communication with employees.
  • Keep all involved through periodic updates on objectives and performance.
  • Interface directly with Human Resources Manager to resolve employee issues such as complaints or leaves of absence.
