JOB SUMMARY
The role of an Industrial Mechanic Millwright encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including troubleshooting, repair, and performing both operational and basic predictive and preventative mechanical maintenance on installations related to water and wastewater treatment facilities. This position requires adaptability to diverse environmental conditions and involves potential exposure to treatment chemicals, sludge, and various operational settings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct maintenance on pumps, which includes servicing and repairing components such as impellers, wear rings, couplings, and alignment of motors and gearboxes.
- Perform maintenance and adjustments on valves, including servicing pressure reducing valves and calibrating pilot-operated valve systems.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of belt and screw conveyor systems, as well as associated feed systems for industrial machinery.
- Execute minor repairs on piping systems, including flanges and gasket collars.
- Assess and optimize process performance by inspecting equipment and implementing established procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Carry out various testing procedures to monitor equipment conditions, including vibration, alignment, and temperature checks.
- Utilize the City’s maintenance software for tracking water and wastewater treatment equipment performance.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of equipment conditions and performance in accordance with standard procedures.
- Ensure cleanliness and adherence to industry practices in work areas.
- Comply with safety policies and regulations, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS.
- Assist facility personnel with various tasks as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Valid 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate of Qualification with substantial experience in the water/wastewater sector or large industrial environments.
2. Training and experience in metal fabrication and various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick) are advantageous.
3. Proficient knowledge of maintenance programs related to water and wastewater treatment equipment.
4. Ability to obtain necessary Operator-in-training certificates within the probation period.
5. Strong self-motivation and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently.
6. Valid Class 'G' driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
7. Comprehensive understanding of relevant statutes and regulations affecting the department.
8. High level of computer proficiency, particularly with MS Office and asset management applications.
9. Physical capability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and working in confined spaces.
NOTE: Successful candidates will be required to undergo a Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check prior to employment.
