Position Overview:

Sault Area Hospital is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) program. The selected individual will play a crucial role within a multidisciplinary mental health team, collaborating with various mental health services in both hospital and community settings, adhering to the standards established by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop program plans, deliver treatment, and evaluate outcomes for clients in inpatient, outpatient, or community environments.
  • Interpret assessment results and formulate effective treatment strategies.
  • Create, execute, and assess treatment plans tailored to individual or group needs.
  • Provide education and guidance to clients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to enhance occupational performance.
  • Implement measures to address client safety concerns and reduce risks of serious injury or harm.
  • Assist clients and families in developing coping mechanisms, making informed decisions, and utilizing available resources, including referrals to community services.
  • Engage with clients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and community partners throughout the therapeutic process, advocating for client needs.
  • Contribute to discharge planning to ensure safe and effective transitions.
  • Perform home evaluations as necessary.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication in accordance with hospital and departmental protocols.
  • Document assessment outcomes, treatment plans, client objectives, and progress, ensuring compliance with COTO standards and hospital policies.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices into clinical work.
  • Prioritize patient needs independently to guarantee timely interventions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary mental health team and psychiatrist as required.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program meeting the academic and clinical criteria for registration with COTO.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists national certification examination.
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
  • Maintenance of a Professional Portfolio and participation in the audit process as mandated by COTO.

Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing severe and persistent physical and/or mental health challenges.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of assessment and treatment techniques for cognitive abilities and daily living activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide relevant care and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Thorough knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to work autonomously as part of an interdisciplinary team and engage effectively with clients.
  • Demonstrated behavior aligned with the hospital's performance standards and core values.

Additional Notes:

A valid driver's license and insurance coverage for client transportation are required.

This position may qualify for the Rehabilitation Professionals Incentive Grant. Further details can be obtained as necessary.
