Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team at RBC. As a key member of our Data Services group, you will play a critical role in the development and maintenance of scalable data stores that supply big data in forms needed for business analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirement Gathering and Consulting: You will gather project requirements and provide consulting services to stakeholders, collaborating closely with business teams to ensure accurate translation of requirements into technical solutions.
  • Technical Analysis, Design & Documentation: You will design and architect solutions for credit risk reporting applications, developing database structures, reviewing specifications, and ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Coding and Testing: You will develop micro-services and data processing jobs, conducting thorough code reviews, contributing to unit test plans, and collaborating with QA teams to ensure quality standards.
  • Planning, Implementation & Support: You will collaborate with IT teams and vendors to design and implement interfaces, support vendor releases, manage change activities, and troubleshoot technical issues during production implementations.
  • Process Knowledge & Communication: You will understand development methodologies, especially Agile, translating business logic into technical designs and communicating effectively with project teams and stakeholders, resolving conflicts and escalating issues as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in developing and implementing applications for business stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Building ETL pipelines using Data stage, Java/J2EE Microservice Architecture, and building RESTful Web services. Experience working in Hadoop/CDP Big Data environments, with strong hands-on experience in Spark/Hive for real-time and batch processing application development.
  • Database Skills: Strong skills in database application development, ETL work, and advanced database performance tuning using technologies like Hibernate/Spring, with expertise in Hive/MySQL/SQL Server/Sybase/Oracle or similar databases.
  • Additional Skills: Experience in Mainframe - JCL, ZEKE, and Stonebranch scheduler, proficient in unit testing (JUnit/testing), as well as Unix/Linux, shell scripting, and application configuration and deployment processes.
