POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the General Manager or their designate, the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Manager holds responsibility for the comprehensive management of the Recreation Department. This role involves supervising all Recreation personnel and volunteers, overseeing the department's budget, and actively participating in the Management team. The TR Manager evaluates each resident's overall strengths and needs, crafting, executing, and assessing Recreation services tailored to those needs.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Motivate and engage your team to fulfill the organization's mission, objectives, and key results.
  2. Foster collaborative relationships that enhance the organizational culture and mission.
  3. Exemplify the organization's values and leadership qualities, inspiring others to follow suit.

Human Resources Management:

  1. Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, disciplinary actions, and termination processes for Recreation staff and volunteers.
  2. Assist in grievance resolution by collaborating with union representatives and communicating relevant policies to staff.
  3. Conduct regular performance evaluations for all departmental employees.
  4. Identify and address educational needs for staff, contributing to the development and execution of training programs.
  5. Manage work schedules for Recreation staff, coordinating assignments and ensuring adequate direct care hours.
  6. Address performance issues among Recreation staff, students, and volunteers to uphold service standards.
  7. Coordinate student placement initiatives within the Recreation Department and maintain necessary documentation.

Administrative Duties:

  1. Participate in management meetings, contributing to strategic planning for assigned responsibilities.
  2. Assist in the planning and execution of the Recreation Department's operating and capital budgets.
  3. Act as the liaison for the Resident Council, providing necessary support.
  4. Collaborate with community organizations to enhance programs and promote the facility.
  5. Maintain and update departmental standards, procedures, and records for efficiency.
  6. Ensure the upkeep of all recreation equipment and supplies, maintaining proper documentation.
  7. Stay informed about administrative and emergency protocols, participating in safety drills.
  8. Engage in resident safety initiatives.
  9. Develop and distribute monthly recreation program calendars and newsletters.
  10. Compile and submit monthly departmental reports, collaborating with the General Manager to enhance departmental operations.
  11. Oversee the facility's transportation safety program, including maintenance and compliance for vehicles.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Regularly attend training and educational sessions to enhance professional competencies.
  2. Conduct resident assessments and maintain care plans in line with regulatory standards.
  3. Design and implement Recreation Interventions that address the emotional, cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual needs of residents.
  4. Facilitate Recreation programs and interventions for residents.
  5. Provide mentorship and training to Recreation staff on best clinical practices.
  6. Document relevant observations in the Interdisciplinary Resident Progress Record and communicate findings with the care team.
  7. Engage in community and corporate quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  8. Collaborate positively with all team members and supervisors.
  9. Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  2. A minimum of two years of management experience in a senior living environment.
  3. Current Basic CPR / First Aid certification.
  4. Valid class 4 Driver's License as required.
  5. Current Food Safe Certification.
  6. Mandatory Serving It Right Certification.
  7. All successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per provincial guidelines.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and visitors.
  2. Good physical and emotional health, capable of performing tasks such as walking, bending, lifting, and pushing.
  3. Demonstrated supervisory experience and skills.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  6. Experience in financial management is an asset.
