Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare system, adhering to the competency guidelines and standards set forth by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. This position involves processing medication orders that have been clinically assessed for therapeutic suitability and sanctioned by a licensed Pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Efficiently process medication orders that have received clinical approval for patient distribution.
- Accurately receive and verify prescriptions from healthcare practitioners, ensuring their authenticity and completeness.
- Prepare and compound medications, including sterile pharmaceutical products, in accordance with established protocols.
- Conduct thorough checks to ensure the accuracy of dispensed medications, verifying order entries and performing final inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of drug and personal health information within the pharmacy information system.
- Facilitate the transfer of prescriptions between pharmacies as needed.
- Process temporary inpatient leave prescriptions by reviewing and converting existing medication orders.
Qualifications:
- Must hold current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with colleagues and patients.
- Physical capability to perform job-related tasks.
- Proficient keyboarding skills.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with operating relevant equipment.
- Commitment to understanding and promoting Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation efforts.
