Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the Infrastructure Health and Safety Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a collaborative and proactive health and safety culture within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Safety Procedures: Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations.
- Conduct Site Safety Inspections: Conduct regular site safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide Training and Support: Develop and deliver OHS training and new hire orientations to ensure employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs safely.
- Monitor and Report: Track leading and lagging statistics, identify trends, and communicate findings to the relevant operations team.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to develop site-specific health and safety plans and job hazard assessments.
- Support Incident Investigations: Support incident investigations by ensuring root causes are accurately identified and corrective actions are appropriate, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
- Maintain Certifications and Records: Maintain workers' certifications, identify gaps, and schedule appropriate safety training.
- Coordinate Safety Programs: Coordinate and maintain respirator fit testing and hearing testing programs.
- Support Joint Health and Safety Committees: Provide support to the Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Monitor Regulatory Developments: Monitor regulatory developments in Health and Safety for new and/or revised compliance obligations.
Requirements
- Occupational Health and Safety Experience: 1+ year of OHS experience in Construction/Oil & Gas.
- Education: Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in health and safety, or equivalent education in a related field.
- Communication and Presentation Skills: Proven ability to achieve results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, skilled in creating and delivering presentations and reports, and excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and experience with third-party safety management and compliance reporting systems.
- Driver's License: Valid and clean BC Driver's License.
What We Offer
The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $70,000 - $80,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate's competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of NorLand's total compensation package, this position is eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility.
