Role Overview:As a Local Trade Compliance Specialist, your primary responsibility is to assist local business management in ensuring that all local operations adhere to ABB's trade policies and guidelines. You will provide practical support for compliance with trade-related regulations and work towards achieving strategic trade goals.
Reporting directly to local business management and functionally to the Country Trade Compliance Officer, you will act as the main point of contact for all trade-related inquiries within the local business. Regular updates on potential risk areas will be communicated to local management and the Country Trade Compliance Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain comprehensive written procedures and guidelines for local business compliance with export control and customs regulations, in collaboration with the Country Trade Compliance Officer.
- Ensure that an up-to-date overview of all trade-related policies, instructions, processes, and tools is available within the local unit, promoting management awareness.
- Provide regular updates to local business managers and staff regarding the implementation status of ABB's Global Trade Program and any significant changes in export control and customs laws and regulations.
- Implement and sustain a general awareness program for local business staff regarding export control and customs compliance, including providing necessary training.
- Offer policy advice and practical guidance to local business on export control and customs compliance, including documentation and archiving requirements.
- Apply for necessary customs and/or export control licenses and authorizations under the guidance of the Country Trade Compliance Officer.
- Maintain local business trade compliance records for a minimum of five years or as mandated by national laws.
- Assist the Country Trade Compliance Officer with local trade reviews and conduct annual self-assessments of local business trade compliance.
- Ensure effective utilization of SAP's Global Trade Services (GTS) compliance and customs modules.
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration to foster continuous improvement in trade management and compliance.
Qualifications:
A solid understanding of export control and customs regulations is essential, along with a willingness to learn. Candidates should possess several years of experience within the business and a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes, risk management, and logistics.
Strong communication skills are crucial, enabling effective interaction across all levels of the local business in both English and the local language. Proficiency in French is required, as well as English for regular communication with external customers.
A business-oriented mindset, responsiveness, a strong sense of ownership, and a self-driven attitude are essential. Technical knowledge of products, software, and applied technologies relevant to the local business scope is considered an asset.
