About the Role

Inter Pipeline is seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Specialist to join our team in Calgary. As a key member of our financial reporting team, you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing Inter Pipeline's financial statements and other financial reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review Inter Pipeline's quarterly and annual financial statements, including notes to the financial statements, in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Support in the preparation of Inter Pipeline's quarterly and annual management discussion and analysis (MD&A).
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial submissions to Inter Pipeline's parent entity.
  • Research and document the appropriate accounting treatment for new transactions, situations, or agreements that may result in unique or complex accounting treatment.
  • Work on the implementation of new accounting standards, including changes to financial statements, system changes, and training of staff.
  • Liaise with the Operations Accounting groups and other areas of the business, where appropriate, to explain accounting treatments and conclusions.
  • Assist with special projects as required, such as implementation of financial systems, process improvement efficiencies, tax planning structures, project financing, acquisition due diligence, purchase price accounting, set-up of new transactions, and other.
  • Liaise with external auditors.
  • Ad-hoc internal reporting (management reports, queries, etc.) for management throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 3+ years of applicable industry or public practice experience in a financial reporting or auditing role.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, SOX, and experience in financial reporting.
  • Ability to evaluate complex business and accounting issues.
  • Possesses a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Provide contributions that go beyond the financial function; has a good understanding of business and systems.
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, team, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to concurrently manage and progress multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced, growth environment.
  • Mindset for continual learning, growth, and development.
