Job Overview:

The Oncology Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive cancer care throughout the patient's journey. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment administration, care coordination, and follow-up in an outpatient setting. The Oncology Nurse will engage in patient and family education, conduct essential nursing assessments, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and implement appropriate interventions. Staff members frequently handle cytotoxic and hazardous medications, with personal protective equipment (PPE) and training provided.

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Current registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body or eligibility to register within a specified timeframe.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as per organizational policy.
  • Familiarity with the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the Scope of Practice as outlined in applicable legislation.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and software applications.
  • Eligibility to work legally in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in medical/surgical or outpatient care settings.
  • Knowledge and experience in oncology nursing.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Ability to communicate in French.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Oncology Nurse.
  • Experience in wound care management.
  • Familiarity with care for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Strong understanding of patient-centered care principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands effectively.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing situations.
  • Capability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
