Job Overview:
The Oncology Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive cancer care throughout the patient's journey. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment administration, care coordination, and follow-up in an outpatient setting. The Oncology Nurse will engage in patient and family education, conduct essential nursing assessments, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and implement appropriate interventions. Staff members frequently handle cytotoxic and hazardous medications, with personal protective equipment (PPE) and training provided.
Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- Current registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body or eligibility to register within a specified timeframe.
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as per organizational policy.
- Familiarity with the Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the Scope of Practice as outlined in applicable legislation.
- Proficient in using computer systems and software applications.
- Eligibility to work legally in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- A minimum of three years of experience in medical/surgical or outpatient care settings.
- Knowledge and experience in oncology nursing.
- Experience with electronic health records.
- Ability to communicate in French.
Asset Qualifications:
- Certification as an Oncology Nurse.
- Experience in wound care management.
- Familiarity with care for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
Assessment Criteria:
- Strong understanding of patient-centered care principles.
- Ability to manage multiple demands effectively.
- Adaptability to rapidly changing situations.
- Capability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
