Job Title: Education Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #62 (Sooke). As an Education Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, including autism, behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, objectives, and supports.
  • Supervise students within the school, on the playground, and on field trips, including transitioning between activities.
  • Assist students during classroom activities and support social inclusion through implementing self-regulation strategies, behavior support strategies, communication strategies, and monitoring behavior.
  • Objectively observe and record student behavior, as required, and report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
  • May support personal care needs of students, such as glucagon testing, toileting, and feeding, and attend to minor cuts or bruises.
  • May be required to physically assist students using lifts and transfers, support transferring students on and off buses, and walk or run in various weather conditions.
Requirements:
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans, an asset.
  • Ability to implement modified and adapted curriculum.
  • Basic computer skills, including reading and forming emails, viewing Word/Excel documents, navigating the internet, and using web-based applications.
  • Physical ability to respond to student needs.

  • Clearly articulates thoughts and ideas and shares timely and relevant information openly, honestly, and respectfully using oral, written, and visual formats.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and proactively plans, prioritizes, and organizes work.
  • Respects the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents, and staff.
Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, and the successful candidate will be required to work all instructional days from September to June. The rate of pay is as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
