**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #62 (Sooke). The successful candidate will provide support to students with diverse needs, including autism, behavior disorders, and learning disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, objectives, and supports.
- Supervise students within the school, on the playground, and on field trips, including transitioning between activities.
- Assist students during classroom activities and support social inclusion through implementing self-regulation strategies, behavior support strategies, communication strategies, and monitoring behavior.
- Objectively observe and record student behavior, as required.
- Report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
- Support personal care needs of students, including glucagon testing, toileting, feeding, and minor cuts or bruises.
- Physically assist students using lifts and transfers, and support transferring students on and off buses.
- Remain current in school, district, and provincial policies and guidelines relevant to the role.
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development.
- Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans (an asset).
- Ability to implement modified and adapted curriculum.
- Basic computer skills, including reading and forming emails, viewing Word/Excel documents, navigating the internet, and using web-based applications.
- Physical ability to respond to student needs.
- Demonstrates patience and acceptance when dealing with students.
- Shows kindness and cares about the well-being of students.
- Actively shows courtesy and respect to all, proactively builds healthy and trusting relationships with all, and contributes to a positive working environment.
- Clearly articulates thoughts and ideas and shares timely and relevant information openly, honestly, and respectfully using oral, written, and visual formats.
- Possesses strong organizational skills and proactively plans, prioritizes, and organizes work.
- Respects the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents, and staff.
