About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Power Engineer to join our team. As a Power Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam boilers, air conditioning units, ventilation systems, and emergency power diesel generating units. You will also be responsible for responding to maintenance and operation calls from other departments, including those related to patient care.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in plant/building operations and maintenance, including repairs on related systems and equipment. A 4th Class Stationary Engineer certificate is required, and previous experience in maintenance and plant operations is preferred. Good communication skills and the ability to follow oral and written instructions are essential. Knowledge and observation of safe work practices are also required.

Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • 4th Class Stationary Engineer certificate
  • Previous experience in plant/building operations and maintenance
  • Three years' experience in maintenance and plant operations preferred
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge and observation of safe work practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
  • Working experience with computers considered an asset
  • Current WHMIS certification required
  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of autonomy. They will be required to work 12 hour shifts and may be required to work overtime as needed.

Compensation and Incentives

The Nova Scotia Health Authority offers a competitive salary of $28.79 per hour. Successful candidates may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
