Position Overview:

The Assistant Financial Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing and executing a variety of accounting and financial responsibilities to uphold the fiscal health and regulatory compliance of the organization. This position entails managing inventory and pricing documentation, supervising payroll processes, handling inter-company financial activities, and preparing diverse financial reports and documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage accounting operations, ensuring the ledger is current, and overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. Establish and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Formulate, implement, and uphold internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation and maintenance of accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts, investment accounts, credit cards, and lines of credit.
  • Support the payroll department by providing payroll reports regularly.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and conduct monthly ledger reviews.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements as required, adhering to accounting standards.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly management reports for the directors of each entity.
  • Prepare necessary supporting documentation for annual audits and external auditors.
  • Analyze monthly results and create variance reports.
  • Manage cash flow and develop cash flow forecasts in line with company policy.
  • Assist the Financial Controller with financial reporting, budget formulation, monitoring internal controls, optimizing accounting functions, and strategizing financial growth for the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and provincial sales tax, income tax, and payroll regulations.
  • Proficient in the MS Office 365 suite, particularly Excel at an advanced level.
  • Strong organizational skills and a sense of responsibility.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative team player.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and resolve challenging situations effectively.
  • Exhibit autonomy, resourcefulness, and effective stress management skills.
