Position Overview:

The Assistant Controller of Finance plays a vital role in overseeing and executing a variety of accounting and financial responsibilities to uphold the financial stability and regulatory compliance of the organization. This position involves managing inventory and pricing records, supervising payroll processes, handling inter-company financial transactions, and preparing diverse financial documentation and reports. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Financial Controller and is essential in preserving the financial integrity of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage accounting operations, ensuring the ledger is current, and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Establish and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Formulate, implement, and ensure adherence to internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Reconcile and supervise the reconciliation of bank accounts, investment accounts, credit cards, and lines of credit.
  • Assist the payroll department by providing payroll reports regularly.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and conduct monthly ledger reviews.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards when necessary.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly management reports for the directors of each entity.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for the annual audit and assist external auditors as required.
  • Analyze monthly results and produce monthly variance reports.
  • Manage cash flow and prepare forecasts in alignment with company policy.
  • Support the Financial Controller in generating financial reports, developing budgets, monitoring internal controls, optimizing accounting functions, and creating financial growth strategies for the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and provincial sales tax, income tax, and payroll regulations.
  • Proficient in the MS Office 365 suite, particularly Excel at an advanced level.
  • Strong organizational skills and a sense of responsibility.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and resolve challenging situations effectively.
  • Exhibit autonomy, resourcefulness, and strong stress management capabilities.
