Accounting Technician Job Description

Join our team of accounting professionals at MNP, a leading national accounting, tax, and business advisory firm in Canada. As an Accounting Technician, you will play a key role in providing business strategies and solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain government remittances, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable, and payroll transactions.
  • Set up client files, assist with budget completion, and perform administrative planning and other accounting tasks.
  • Perform month-end and quarter-end close processes, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and discuss resolutions with managers or engagement partners.
  • Communicate with governments, suppliers, and clients regarding information requests, assessments, and installments.
  • Work with accounting software, provide support to clients, and develop relationships with client management.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of MNP's services, businesses, and industry.
  • Contribute to process improvements and raise awareness of MNP at community events.
  • Attend internal courses to develop accounting and assurance knowledge.
Requirements
  • Completion of an Accounting certificate or Administration (Accounting or Finance major considered an asset).
  • Entry-level to 4 years of accounting-related experience.
  • Working knowledge of trial balances, general ledger databases, financial statement close processes, and accounting matters.
  • Experience in preparing T4s and T5s and knowledge of personal and corporate tax.
  • Understanding of payroll, bookkeeping, and record-keeping practices on manual and computerized systems.
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software such as QuickBooks, TaxPrep, and Caseware.
  • Knowledge of Investment accounting and working knowledge of Write-Up.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
