Accounting Technician Job Description

MNP LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Technician to join our team. As an Accounting Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions, as well as providing exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and maintain government remittances, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable, and payroll transactions.
  2. Set up client files, assist with budget completion, and perform administrative planning and other accounting tasks.
  3. Maintain, monitor, and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, intercompany, and point of sale/system uploads.
  4. Communicate with suppliers and review contracts.
  5. Work with accounting software and provide support to clients.
  6. Raise awareness of MNP LLP at community events.
  7. Attend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledge.
Requirements:
  1. Completion of an Accounting certificate or Administration (Accounting or Finance major considered an asset).
  2. Entry-level to 4 years of accounting-related experience.
  3. Working knowledge of trial balances, general ledger databases, financial statement close processes, and accounting matters is beneficial.
  4. Experience in preparing T4s and T5s and knowledge of personal and corporate tax is preferred.
  5. Understanding of payroll, bookkeeping, and record-keeping practices on manual and computerized systems is considered an asset.
  6. Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as QuickBooks, TaxPrep, and Caseware.
  7. Knowledge of Investment accounting and working knowledge of Write-Up.
  8. Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
