Key Responsibilities

The Indigenous Education Support Officer (IESO) is essential in promoting a supportive educational setting for Indigenous students. Acting as a bridge between the educational institution and the community, the IESO collaborates with educators, students, and families to design culturally appropriate educational initiatives that empower Indigenous students to achieve their fullest potential.

Through mentorship and pastoral care, the IESO offers guidance and support to Indigenous students, particularly those facing challenges, to foster their engagement and success in the academic environment. With a profound understanding of Indigenous heritage and traditions, the IESO contributes a valuable perspective to the school community, encouraging respect, understanding, and unity.

In addition to supporting educators and students, the IESO actively engages with the local Indigenous community to encourage their participation in shaping educational policies and programs. This role also includes conducting home visits to discuss students' academic progress and social development, as well as providing orientation to staff regarding the Indigenous community.
