Overview:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) undergraduate curriculum includes core and interdisciplinary programs. The Laboratory Educator/Software Professional plays a crucial role in enhancing student success and teaching the lab portion of courses within the professional degree program, reporting to the Lab Director and Coordinator. Key responsibilities include instruction, assessment, collaboration with faculty, and maintenance of lab facilities. The role involves developing experiments, supervising students, and training Teaching Assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach lab portion of courses, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of electrical and computer engineering concepts
  • Collaborate with faculty to synchronize lecture and lab materials, promoting a cohesive learning experience
  • Monitor student progress and academic integrity, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Supervise Teaching Assistants, fostering their growth and development in a lab setting
  • Maintain lab facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment for students
  • Attend planning sessions and participate in meetings, contributing to the development of lab programs and initiatives
  • Assist with other duties as assigned, supporting the overall mission of the University of Waterloo

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with a strong foundation in relevant principles and practices
  • Five years of lab operations experience, with a proven track record of success in a similar role
  • Experience with measurement instruments and software packages, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications
  • Teaching experience is highly desirable, with a passion for education and student development
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team
