Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Specialist, Multi Functional Lab Core Lab, Mount St Joseph Hospital

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Specialist to join our team at the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional support in the collection, processing, and analysis of laboratory specimens.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process patient samples, ensuring accurate and timely entry of demographic information into our computer system.
- Collect blood specimens from patients, adhering to strict protocols and procedures to ensure sample integrity.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, separation, and labeling.
- Process and sort specimens for testing, logging data into our computer database and batching for distribution.
- Send specimens to referral laboratories, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Perform receptionist duties, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and relaying messages.
- Print and distribute laboratory reports to physicians and nursing staff as requested.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Schedule and book patient appointments using our computerized scheduling system.
- Perform ECG testing, attaching electrodes to patients and running tests as required.
Requirements
- Grade 12 and completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus one year's recent experience in a related field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting and carrying samples.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including computers and laboratory instruments.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
