Job Description

Job Title: Marine Conservation Analyst

Job Summary:

Nativemaps is seeking a highly skilled Marine Conservation Analyst to join our team. As a Marine Conservation Analyst, you will be responsible for developing and conducting marine spatial analyses and GIS mapping that supports our ocean conservation campaigns and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct marine spatial analyses and GIS mapping to support ocean conservation campaigns and projects.
  • Design and analyze protected areas to inform ecologically-based marine planning.
  • Work closely with Nativemaps staff to identify and recommend analyses that could support existing and new programs.
  • Present analysis results to partner organizations, the scientific community, and government decision makers.
  • Manage and analyze large datasets to identify conservation issues and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in science or resource management.
  • Advanced diploma in Geographic Information Systems.
  • Strong skills in geographic information system technology, including ArcInfo 9.0 and ArcView 3.2.
  • Solid understanding of marine ecology, particularly of the NE Pacific.
  • Solid understanding of protected area design theory.
  • Intermediate statistical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team of scientists.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with MARXAN or similar software.
  • Experience working with government agencies and non-profit organizations.
