Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Vancouver Airport Authority Full time

Vancouver Airport Authority is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2030, presenting numerous opportunities to collaborate with partners and the airport community on projects aimed at reaching this ambitious target.

The Engineering Projects Department plays a crucial role at YVR, supporting construction and development initiatives on Sea Island. This department collaborates with both internal and external partners to fulfill the objectives set by the YVR Executive Team and leadership.

Position Overview

Are you enthusiastic about project engineering? Do you possess a solid understanding of industry practices and standards? Are you keen on advancing your career within the aviation sector?

We are offering a permanent, full-time position for a Project Engineering Specialist (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) within the Engineering Projects Department. Reporting to the Manager of Baggage Projects, the successful candidate will oversee the execution and management of a variety of small to mid-sized design and construction initiatives, particularly focusing on baggage systems and related projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  1. Overseeing assigned capital and investment projects, which includes defining project requirements, scope, budget, and timeline.
  2. Formulating and executing project implementation strategies in partnership with YVR stakeholders and Airport Operations and Maintenance, while leading in construction safety and environmental stewardship.
  3. Drafting and assessing Request for Proposal and Tender documents, encompassing scope of work definitions, technical specifications, and scheduling constraints.
  4. Coordinating design teams to produce contract documents that align with desired project outcomes while adhering to established scope, timeline, and budget.
  5. Managing and maintaining construction contracts, schedules, and project budgets, including cost forecasting and risk management.
  6. Engaging with internal Airport Authority departments and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, facilitating discussions, reviews, inspections, and site visits.
Key Qualifications Include:
  1. A university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, complemented by a minimum of five years' experience for the Intermediate level or ten years' experience for the Senior level in the design, construction, or consulting sectors.
  2. Familiarity with construction industry practices and standards; knowledge of airport operations or baggage system functionality is advantageous.
  3. Strong project management skills, organizational abilities, and understanding of contract law and administration processes.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project; effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

This position is available to both current employees of the Vancouver Airport Authority and external candidates. Previous job performance will be considered for all internal applicants.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $91,587 to $119,696 (Intermediate) or $97,599 to $127,555 (Senior) annually, based on a standard 37.5-hour work week. This is tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

At YVR, your employment experience extends beyond financial compensation. We prioritize your personal and professional growth, well-being, and a vibrant work culture, offering generous vacation days, comprehensive health benefits, retirement savings matching, wellness programs, community engagement, commuting support, and ongoing learning opportunities.

About Us: YVR is more than just an airport; we connect our beautiful province with the world. We are leaders and innovators, and every role contributes to our mission.

At YVR, we embrace flexibility in all our endeavors. We collaborate to deliver exceptional customer service that fosters collective success.
