Your Contribution

As a Pavement Engineering Technician, you will collaborate with the Pavement team in our Toronto office and provide support to other offices in the Greater Toronto Area.

Reporting to the Team Leader of Pavements Engineering, your primary responsibility will involve working on pavement and geotechnical projects for various municipalities in Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation.

Your specific duties will include:

  • Overseeing geotechnical investigations, including asphalt and concrete core sampling, borehole drilling, rock coring, and monitoring well installation;
  • Conducting coring operations using specialized gas-powered equipment when necessary;
  • Logging soil samples for classification and laboratory analysis, as well as preparing subsoil samples for environmental assessments;
  • Entering field data, including borehole logs and core photographs, into the appropriate systems;
  • Performing fieldwork with pavement testing equipment such as Falling Weight Deflectometers (FWD), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and laser profilometers (training will be provided);
  • Compiling field reports that document equipment used, test locations, and results;
  • Assisting with equipment calibration and maintenance as required;
  • Promoting and adhering to safe work practices;
  • Applying and advocating for GSI Environnement's health and safety protocols;
  • Carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Your Profile
  • Technical Diploma in a field related to Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering;
  • Two (2) years of experience in geotechnical and/or pavement, civil, mechanical, or electrical fields is preferred;
  • Proficient computer skills or the ability to adapt to various software for testing equipment;
  • Hands-on skills or knowledge in troubleshooting equipment is advantageous;
  • Experience with borehole drilling, coring, and pavement testing equipment is a plus;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety;
  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible hours as needed;
  • The role requires travel to various sites within Canada, and candidates must possess a valid Province of Ontario class 'G' driver's license, access to a vehicle, and the capability to drive a pickup truck with an attached trailer.
