Data Warehouse Architect Job Description

The Data Warehouse Architect plays a pivotal role in driving and coordinating the technical execution of enterprise data warehouse solutions and services. This involves understanding business requirements, solution design, data extraction, transformation, and integration architecture, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing operational support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate, analyze, and understand data contents of source data systems.
  • Apply dimensional modeling techniques for data warehouse design.
  • Define and improve coding standards, adhering to departmental and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams, business process experts, and IT leadership to understand requirements for data warehouse development projects.
  • Design data architecture for DW components, drive UAT activities, and lead DW/BI initiatives from ideation to completion.
  • Ensure standard data elements are maintained across all data structures in DW and define, develop, and lead implementation of long-term strategy and roadmap for Data Warehousing, Data Science, and ML.
  • Develop and test ETL processes using tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Talend, or future technologies based on the roadmap.
  • Design and implement data warehouse solutions using SQL Server, Snowflake, and SAP Business Object Data Services.
  • Develop and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts and have a basic understanding of Power BI.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 9 years of full Software Development Life Cycle experience.
  • 7+ years of practical experience with any ETL tool, including complex transformation business rules implementation.
  • 3+ years of experience with SSIS or ADF, Talend.
  • 3+ years of practical experience with writing SQL queries, including complex queries.
  • 5+ years of practical experience working on data warehouse projects using dimensional modeling.
  • Ability to analyze existing SSIS code for improvements, enhancements, conversion, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to execute data warehouse tasks in a timely manner without guidance.
  • Project management and SDLC understanding is required.
  • Experience with data warehouse design and development in a manufacturing company.
  • Experience with SAP ERP as a source system.
  • Experience with Cloud DW – Snowflake and Azure Cloud Platform using Azure Data Factory, Talend, Fivetran/dbt, or Matillion.
