Position Overview:

As a Senior Equipment Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that process machinery and equipment are consistently maintained in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to maximize operational efficiency. You will provide expert technical support and guidance to site operations through specialized maintenance services.

Shift Schedule: 12-hour Continental shifts (rotation between days and nights on a monthly basis)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct repairs, refurbishments, and overhauls of machinery and equipment using milling machines, lathes, and various machine shop hand tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance on production equipment, including but not limited to Fluid Bed Dryers, Film Coaters, Tablet Presses, Transfer Pumps, Vacuum Systems, and Processing Vessels.
  • Ensure the upkeep of production and auxiliary equipment, as well as building maintenance, including training operators on equipment setup and operation.
  • Coordinate with Group Leaders and Production Supervisors to schedule downtime for maintenance in alignment with the Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
  • Engage in Operational meetings, Rapid Response teams, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives as necessary.
  • Document work activities within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Promote a safe working environment by identifying and reporting potential hazards.
  • Be prepared to work alternating or rotating shifts, including during maintenance shutdowns.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required.
  • Licensure as an Industrial Millwright is mandatory.
  • Certification as an Ontario Trades Person is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial mechanics or equivalent maintenance roles, preferably within the food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • 1 to 3 years of millwright experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with Maximo CMMS is advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations is essential. A proactive and organized approach to task completion is required, along with strong attention to detail and quality. The ability to confidently interact with both internal and external clients is important. A solid understanding of electronics and pneumatics is desirable, as is demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency in the English language is necessary.

Standards and Expectations:

Adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Collaborate effectively with team members, embodying positive teamwork principles to achieve project and departmental goals. Execute all responsibilities in strict compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Maintain a clean and organized workspace and actively participate in departmental systems to ensure smooth workflow.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to navigate manufacturing and office environments. The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods is necessary, along with the capability to lift and carry medium weights of up to 40 pounds. Manual dexterity, visual acuity for operating equipment, and the ability to communicate effectively are essential. The work environment may expose you to moderate physical discomfort due to factors such as dust, noise, and fumes. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required, which may include safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coats, gloves, and respirators.
