About the Job

This role is a key position within our professional services organization, comprising Systems Designers, Systems Integrators, and Project Managers. Our team delivers business value to our end users, channel partners, and OTTO Motors. We are responsible for designing and integrating fleets of OTTO autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and software at customer facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with sales and applications engineering teams to develop detailed designs of solutions, focusing on mechanical and process aspects.
  • Consult with professional services team members and sales, applications engineering, and simulation teams to ensure clarity of requirements and design.
  • Design and review AMR systems using OTTO Motors products to meet customer requirements, including workflow definition, layout modifications, and mechanical design.
  • Develop creative solutions to challenges encountered during the project design phase.
  • Analyze customer data, evaluate fleet size, and perform cycle time analysis using Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Support the discrete event simulation process by verifying input validity and working with customers and the internal sim team.
  • Plan and document project deliverables and work packages.
  • Effectively communicate and present proposed OTTO solutions to customer team members.
  • Be a trusted technical resource for customers and partners throughout the design phase.
  • Visit customer sites to evaluate material handling operations, processes, and existing equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Author new product requirements based on lessons learned from design and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with the systems engineering team to improve project/department tools, processes, and working relationships with other departments.
  • Travel for business within North America, Europe, and Asia, with a ~20-30% travel commitment.
Required Background
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working within manufacturing/industrial automation.
  • Mechanical design experience.
  • University degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience working directly with clients/end-users.
Required Skills
  • Planning and organization.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivation and organization with a keen eye for detail.
  • Able to identify and communicate the value of OTTO's proposed solution to the customer.
  • Understanding of complex integrated systems, material handling, mechanical, and industrial equipment and processes.
  • Experience creating, editing, and reviewing CAD models/drawings, including SolidWorks for 3D CAD and Draftsight for 2D CAD.
  • Experience organizing and analyzing data using MS Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Experience preparing engineering design documentation and reports.
Bonus Points
  • Experience working with automated vehicles (AMRs or AGVs).
  • Experience with simulation software (Digital Twin, Event, or Process Simulation).
  • Experience with Jira and Epicor.
  • Experience working on projects involving material handling automation, conveyors, palletized lines, automated storage, and retrieval.
