Role Summary:

The Client Transport Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of clients from their residences to various facilities. The specialist is attentive to the needs of clients during transit.

Key Duties:

  • Ensure the secure transportation of clients in an accessible vehicle as per the schedule.
  • Complete any required certifications as instructed.
  • Maintain safety through regular checks and upkeep of the vehicle, ensuring all certifications are valid.
  • Accurately fill out vehicle log sheets on a regular basis.
  • Assist clients as necessary, including handling and securing their equipment during pick-up and drop-off.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality and personal information protection policies.
  • Follow the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving Agreement.
  • Comply with all VON policies and procedures, including reporting any incidents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring service delivery aligns with established schedules.

Relationships:

  • Engage regularly with clients to assist in fulfilling their transportation needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma.
  • At least one year of experience working with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience and capability in managing vehicle restraints.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in using accessible equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters, and mechanical lifts.
  • Dependable, reliable, and adaptable.
  • Strong verbal communication abilities.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying at least 35 pounds using proper techniques.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on safety.
  • Physically active and able to engage in regular physical tasks.
  • French language skills are an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid driver's permit and maintain a clean driving record, updated annually.
  • Possession of a valid G class driver's license.
  • Proof of insurance coverage is required when using a personal vehicle.
  • A current Criminal Records Check is mandatory upon employment commencement.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check is required.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.

Work Environment:

The role requires attention to detail and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching, while ensuring proper body mechanics are used.
