The role of the Client Transport Specialist at VON Canada involves providing essential transportation services to clients, ensuring their safe and comfortable journey from their residences to various designated locations.

On Call Availability: Yes

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport clients in an accessible vehicle according to the established schedule.
  • Complete any required certifications as directed.
  • Maintain the vehicle's safety through regular inspections and ensure all certifications are up to date.
  • Accurately fill out vehicle log sheets on a regular basis.
  • Assist clients as necessary, including handling and securing their mobility aids during transport.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality and personal information protection policies, ensuring proper safeguards are implemented.
  • Follow the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving Agreement.
  • Comply with all VON policies and procedures, including reporting any incidents or events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring services are delivered according to the schedule.

Relationships:

  • Engage regularly with clients to support their transportation needs effectively.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience working with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficient in using vehicle restraints and handling mobility aids.

Skills:

  • Ability to operate accessible equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters, and mechanical lifts.
  • Dependable, reliable, and adaptable.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 35 pounds using safe lifting techniques.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Physically fit to engage in regular physical activity as part of the job.
  • Bilingualism, particularly in French, is an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver's permit and a clean driving record, which must be updated annually.
  • Possession of a valid G class driver's license.
  • Proof of insurance coverage for personal vehicle use.
  • A current and original Criminal Records Check is required prior to employment.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be necessary.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

Work Environment:

The position requires attention to detail, physical capability to lift and carry, and the ability to perform various physical activities such as bending, pushing, pulling, and walking.
