Job Title: Associate Producer - Prince Rupert

We are seeking an experienced Associate Producer to join our team in Prince Rupert. As an Associate Producer, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of program content, participating in the preparation of program objectives, and performing on-air duties through various platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute and pitch ideas for program content, participate in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Direct live radio program team in studio.
  • Perform on-air through various platforms.
  • Obtain studios, crews, lines, uplinks, remotes, and other technical and production resources required by the program.
  • Assist in developing program and digital/video content, including writing, researching, field production, and/or editing.
  • Prepare scripts, ensure adherence to the style and format of the program.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors, and other participants, develop background, introduction, and line of questioning, conduct or arrange for any necessary research, and ensure the briefing of hosts.
  • Maintain contact files.
  • Create content for digital social platforms as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
  • Adhere to and follow the journalistic standards and practices to achieve the high-quality standards CBC is known for.
Requirements:
  • Community connections and a deep understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perspective and opinion in Northern BC.
  • Familiarity and proven connections with Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour communities, people living with a disability, and other underrepresented communities in British Columbia and across Canada.
  • A deep understanding of BC's northern geography and diverse issues.
  • Ability to generate, pitch, and pursue strong story ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team, you may occasionally be leading your work group.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain communication with a remote team.
  • Strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Ability to work in a multi-platform environment.
  • Strong and enthusiastic team player.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Curious, quick thinking, incisive, and critical thinker.
  • Innovative with programming ideas.
  • Experience using social media to research, develop, and source stories.
  • Committed to serving and growing audiences.
  • Willingness to present on-air is an asset.
  • University degree or equivalent, with a minimum of two years in a similar position - preferred.
