The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical Neurosciences Unit (MSNU) team at IWK Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary care team, you will provide holistic, comprehensive, and evidence-based care to children with cardiac disease and multiple surgical populations.

Reporting to the Manager of the MSNU, you will work collaboratively with families and other healthcare team members to provide patient-centered care that meets the unique needs of each individual. Your expertise in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation will be essential in promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability, or supporting a peaceful death.

As a Registered Nurse on our team, you will have the opportunity to build professional relationships with other nurses and healthcare team members, contribute to a sustainable healthcare system through formal and informal partnerships, and pursue excellence in care, teaching, and research through a spirit of inquiry, discovery, and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide holistic, comprehensive, and evidence-based care to children with cardiac disease and multiple surgical populations
  • Collaborate with families and other healthcare team members to provide patient-centered care
  • Contribute to a sustainable healthcare system through formal and informal partnerships
  • Pursue excellence in care, teaching, and research through a spirit of inquiry, discovery, and innovation
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Program
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Minimum two year pediatric nursing experience preferred
  • Recent orthopaedic experience preferred
  • Recent pediatric cardiac nursing skills preferred
  • Recent neurosciences nursing skills preferred
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with families and other healthcare team members required
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and independent decision making skills required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Family Centre Care required
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and colleagues
