The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical Neurosciences Unit (MSNU) team at IWK Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary care team, you will provide holistic, comprehensive, and evidence-based care to children with cardiac disease and multiple surgical populations.

Reporting to the Manager of the MSNU, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient/family care to promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, injury, and disability, or support a peaceful death. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members to provide high-quality care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing assessment and care planning for patients with complex medical and surgical needs
  • Collaborate with the patient and family to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Work effectively with the interdisciplinary care team to provide seamless care and achieve optimal patient outcomes
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and open communication
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Program
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Minimum two years of pediatric nursing experience preferred
  • Recent orthopaedic experience preferred
  • Recent pediatric cardiac nursing skills preferred
  • Recent neurosciences nursing skills preferred
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with families and other healthcare team members required
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and independent decision-making skills required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Family Centre Care required
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and colleagues
