Job Summary
The Multi Service Worker is a key member of our team at Simcoe County, providing essential support in various locations within the Environmental Services Department and the Dietary Department. This role involves assisting in the setup and serving of food, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and workstations, and performing other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of hot and cold foods, proper storage of food, and estimating food requirements.
- Set up stations with entrees, soups, salads, breads, condiments, other food products, beverages, and utensils, replenish food and drinks as required, and clearing tables/stations at the end of meal periods.
- Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, serving, and storing.
- Understand and follow all policies and procedures for maintaining key control of operations, and for activities ensuring opening, closing, and daily procedures are completed.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment following all County of Simcoe policies and procedures, client and regulatory rules and procedures. Inspect workstations for compliance with service standards.
- Provide general stocking duties in service area as well as keeping records and requisition for supplies and equipment as needed.
- Positive interactions with customers and assisting them as needed.
- Attend mandatory in-services.
- Participate in committees as required.
- Perform all general housekeeping/laundry duties as required.
- Deep cleaning and disinfecting of requested areas or rooms as required.
- Deliver and distribute personal clothing to resident rooms.
- Pick up and deliver exchange linen/personals carts and soiled bins.
- Assist with waste management processes.
- Assists with orientation of new staff.
- Assumes an active role in the infection control program in accordance with the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC).
- Upon request, assist in the implementation of quality management mechanisms such as home audits (resident home area).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of Resident Safety principles and practices into all day-to-day activities. Follows safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to Resident Safety.
- Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Education, Technical Skills, and Certification
Grade 12 OSSD
Completion of the Food Handler/Proton Training Program.
Smart Serve Certification
Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with residents and staff.
Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
Experience
Some previous related experience preferred.
Effort
Some physical effort required to clean, lift, stoop/crouch, move carts, assist clients, moving and putting away food items.
Frequent walking, standing.
Working Conditions
This position is located in a long term care facility and retirement village, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
