Home Support Worker

Job Summary
The Home Support Worker provides expert care and assistance with personal activities, home maintenance, and daily living tasks. As a valued member of Simcoe County's Long Term Care and Seniors Services team, this role requires a commitment to client safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care to clients in accordance with administrative policies and established standards.
- Participate in the activation process to promote the physical, social, and emotional well-being of each client.
- Observe and report significant changes in client condition, documenting in PCC.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including laundry, housekeeping, and personal care.
- Develop and maintain professional work ethics and effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and families.
- Contribute to policy development and revision, focusing on Quality Risk Management programs.
- Utilize electronic systems effectively.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Take responsibility for own ethical behavior.
- Assist in new staff member and student orientation.
- Input client care plans and assessments, completing documentation as required.
- Respond to client emergencies and the emergency response system.
- Participate in resident safety principles and practices, following safe work procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and Long Term Care Homes Act regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality according to Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Participate in educational in-services, identifying personal and group educational needs.

Education, Technical Skills, and Certification
This position requires:
- Completion of or enrollment in the Personal Support Worker Certification program
- Ability to work with others in an inter-professional care team
- Good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position
- Effectiveness working with minimal supervision, with proven reliability and trustworthiness
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Good leadership and organizational skills
- First Aid certificate an asset
- Proof of annual CPR recertification
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
Experience
No experience necessary with the required education.
Effort
Some physical effort will be required when assisting clients with activities of daily living and performing housekeeping duties.
Working Conditions
May be exposed to illnesses/viruses while working with clients.
