Position Overview
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will play a crucial role in the support, development, and execution of Site Reliability Engineering initiatives for all applications within the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). This position requires collaboration with various teams across multiple business lines and technology partners to achieve success in its objectives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in application development, support, and technology operations, and will be capable of fulfilling a production support role while collaborating with the SRE team across different banking sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide application production support, including after-hours assistance.
- Develop SRE solutions such as monitoring systems, machine learning for anomaly detection, self-healing mechanisms, and reliability testing.
- Oversee the production environment by ensuring system availability and a comprehensive view of overall health.
- Create software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications, enhancing reliability, quality, and time-to-market for our software offerings.
- Assist in incident and problem management for relevant applications.
- Maintain up-to-date technology practices, including server patching and certificate renewals, with a focus on automation opportunities.
- Ensure the availability and uptime of applications, adhering to service level objectives.
- Guarantee compliance for all systems and applications, including maintaining necessary segregation of duties.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, anomaly detection, self-healing, and reliability testing for relevant applications.
- Support the unit's goals to adopt automation solutions for applications.
- Utilize design-thinking and an agile approach when collaborating with SREs, Scrum Masters, and team leads.
- Stay informed about technological advancements and engage in continuous learning through formal training and self-directed study.
Qualifications
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in application support, software development (SDLC), and operations (SRE, DevOps, Cloud, Data).
- In-depth knowledge of industry practices, particularly within financial institutions, with a focus on SRE.
- Proficient in various environments including Linux, Windows, databases, cloud, distributed systems, and mainframe technologies.
- Ability to automate routine tasks to enhance operational efficiency.
- Hands-on experience with SRE tools and languages such as Ansible, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Blue Prism, Catch Point, and Grafana.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication abilities with a direct approach.
- Experience in consumer banking is preferred.
Desirable Skills
- Experience as an SRE in the financial trading sector.
