Position Overview

The Family Support Counsellor I plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive family support services to children and families under the care of Wood's Homes. These services encompass in-home assistance, school coordination, and community engagement as necessary. The Family Support Counsellor is expected to uphold high standards in service delivery while adhering to the Health and Safety Management System protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts assessments related to program needs and collaboratively sets goals with families.
  • Advocates for families, facilitating the development of a resource network within the community and among professionals, while empowering families to advocate for themselves.
  • Provides training for parents alongside supportive individual and family counselling.
  • Ensures the safety of all family members by intervening in crisis situations and providing necessary follow-up care.
  • Engages in regular supervision, case reviews, clinical discussions, and team meetings to ensure effective delivery of Family Support services.
  • Reports any workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents to the direct supervisor.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in Human Sciences, Childcare, or a related discipline is essential.
  • A minimum of two to four years of experience working with infants, children, adolescents, and families is required.
  • Experience in family and in-home support is preferred.
  • Familiarity with case management practices is advantageous.
  • A valid, non-GDL class 5 driver's license and access to transportation are necessary.
  • Personal suitability is crucial.
