Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventories, and general ledger functions. This role will also involve assisting in month-end closing processes, preparing financial reports, and collaborating with the accounting team to ensure compliance with financial and internal control policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventories, and general ledger functions.
  • Assist in month-end closing processes, preparation and disbursement of monthly program financial reports.
  • Provide program-specific financial information and reports to support program operations and enable proper follow-up.
  • Work closely with the Accounting team for external year-end audit, including preparation of working papers, account reconciliation, lead sheets, and responses to Auditors' inquiries.
  • Implement and adhere to financial and internal control policies, procedures, and systems to improve overall effectiveness.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the Accounting team, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and the Controller, ensuring proper tracking systems and filing of financial reports with appropriate agencies.
  • Liaise with service providers, such as banks, insurance brokers, and investment managers.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • CPA designation
  • Five years of working experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience with government contracts and/or Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset
  • Strong team player with strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • High moral and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of self-awareness, personal maturity, and responsibility
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a team
  • Self-motivated, positive, and ability to take initiative
  • Cross-cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals, and activities of the commission
  • Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
