Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Technician to join our team at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. As an Accounting Technician, you will be responsible for processing daily banking transactions, reconciling accounts, and providing financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process daily banking transactions, including patient trust allocations and reconciliations
  • Collect, review, and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and present financial reports to management and stakeholders
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions
  • Communicate with clients, staff, and vendors to obtain necessary information and resolve issues
  • Perform other financial analysis, reporting, and communication tasks as required
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a computerized accounting environment, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with investigating and analyzing accounting and finance problems
  • Experience in processing payroll and/or cash and banking transactions and reconciliations
  • Experience performing audit or review procedures
  • Experience with client-facing customer service
  • Experience gathering information from multiple sources for reconciliation purposes
  • Experience investigating and analyzing issues with follow-up performed in a timely manner
  • Experience prioritizing workflow in a demanding environment
  • Experience preparing ad hoc reports for various users and providing management information as requested
Education and Certification
  • Completion of high school education, Manitoba standards required
  • Completion of post-secondary education in accounting or finance from a recognized institution is required
  • Enrolled and actively working towards CPA designation is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Access) required
  • Experience in SAP would be an asset
  • Excellent analytical skills required
  • Excellent English communication skills both written and oral required
  • Ability to recognize and investigate problems quickly and accurately
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and complete work in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet challenging deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of staff, patients/patient's family members, and vendors
