Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Ottawa. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons by administering policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing pool conduct. You will also perform rescues and provide first aid as necessary to preserve life in a team setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing pool conduct
  • Perform rescues and provide first aid as necessary
  • Work in a team environment to ensure pool safety
  • Respond to aquatic emergencies and provide assistance as needed

Requirements:

  • Minimum age requirement is 15 years of age
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate
  • Current Lifesaving Instructor certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate
  • AODA Accessibility/IASR Training

Knowledge and Skills:

  • City of Ottawa and Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services departmental policies, guidelines, and directives
  • City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to handle the stress of an emergency situation
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Reliable

Language Requirement:

  • Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only, or Bilingual competencies

Police Record Check:

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction
