Position Overview: The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for a diverse range of laboratory tasks essential for operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting venous and capillary blood draws
  • Utilizing MEDITECH for order processing and data entry
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sterilization of the laboratory environment and equipment
  • Processing blood specimens accurately
  • Preparing reagents and undertaking additional related duties as necessary

Work Schedule: 7.5-hour shifts; Monday to Friday, including potential weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required, with coursework in English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry or equivalent subjects.
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program is mandatory.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is essential.
  • Proven knowledge of specimen procurement techniques and a solid understanding of Phlebotomy practices are required.
  • A willingness to learn and apply necessary computer functions for the role is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are crucial.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with MEDITECH software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is considered beneficial.
  • Internal candidates currently serving as Medical Laboratory Assistants without certification will also be taken into account.
