Laboratory Support Specialist

Position Overview: The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is responsible for executing a diverse range of laboratory tasks to fulfill operational needs. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting venous and capillary blood draws
- Utilizing MEDITECH for order entry and management
- Sanitizing and maintaining the work environment and equipment
- Processing blood specimens
- Preparing reagents and undertaking additional related duties as necessary
Work Schedule: 7.5-hour shifts; Monday to Friday, including weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required, with courses in English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry or acceptable equivalents.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Lab Assistant program is mandatory.
- Certification as an MLA from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is essential.
- Proven knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to specimen procurement and a solid understanding of Phlebotomy is required.
- A willingness to learn and apply necessary computer functions is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and communication skills are necessary.
- Experience in a similar laboratory setting is advantageous.
- Familiarity with MEDITECH is a plus.
- Proficiency in additional languages is considered beneficial.
- Internal candidates currently employed as Medical Laboratory Assistants without certification will also be considered.
